The Interview

Dress as you would for work – neatly and appropriately for the job.

Usually there will be three people on the panel.

Fremantle Ports usually allows interview candidates 30 minutes to pre-read the interview questions, which provides opportunity to each candidate to prepare dot points to each question and maximise their responses.

During the interview:

  • Do not assume panel members know about your suitability even if you have worked with them in the past or have previous experience in the position you have applied for
  • Try to remember the names of each member of the Selection Panel.
  • Take time to answer each question, with specific examples within the criterion. The panel will appreciate a well thought out answer presented clearly and concisely even if you take a few moments to prepare
  • When the opportunity is presented, ask any questions about the organisation or the position. Avoid asking questions ‘just for the sake of it’. If you do not have any questions then do not hesitate to say so
  • Panel members will record your replies to questions as you are talking, this  assists the panel  to accurately recall information when reaching a decision
  • They may ask you for further information for clarification
  • Occasionally candidates from outside Perth will be invited to participate in a tele- conference interview as a screening process to ascertain their competitiveness. Highly competitive candidates outside Perth, such as those who live  in North West of WA or another state will be invited to Fremantle for interview with fares and accommodation covered by Fremantle Ports.
