Application Preparation
Treat your job application as Fremantle Ports’ first impression of you. Take the time to plan it well to offer a good first impression. A high-quality application is a key part of gaining an interview. As there may be many other people applying for the position, make sure your application addresses the selection criteria in sufficient detail to show that you satisfy the criteria and stand out from other applicants.

The following information is provided to assist you in preparing your application.

It is designed to indicate the expectations of the selection panel, who will review application to choose the most competitive applicants for interview. You are encouraged to use the format set out below.

Your application should, where possible be typed, and include the following:

1)     Application form

  • Online application forms are preferable. This can be done via the link on the Fremantle Ports
  • Please complete this form in your own handwriting or type it, including the acknowledgement slip.
  • This will be the first stage of your application.

2)     Covering Letter (Optional)

The short covering letter is an introduction to your application

  • State the identifying details of the position
  • You may wish to summarise your application and emphasise your strongest points and achievements

3)     Resume (Curriculum Vitae) which comprises of:

  • Personal Details - name, address and contact telephone numbers
  • Work history
    • a concise description of your relevant work experience starting with the most recent and including dates
    • details of your major accomplishments at work
    • a brief description of your duties and responsibilities in each jo
  • Education & Training achievements, including any that you are currently undertaking
  • Photocopies of relevant qualifications
  • 2 Referees must be nominated in your application; one should preferably be a current supervisor/manager, and the other should be able to provide general information on your work performance
  • Carefully choose your referees, as they should be people who know your work well and can tell the selection panel about your competencies. You will want to make sure they consider that you have the competency levels relevant to the selection criteria

4)     Statement of Claims Against the Selection Criteria

      This is the most important part of your application!

  • Refer to section 6 of the Job Description form and the “addressing the selection criteria” section of this document
  • Treat each criteria separately
  • Explain how you meet the criteria
