Interview Preparation

Interview questions will always relate to the selection criteria and the same questions are asked of each applicant.

The interview is an opportunity to show that you are the best person for the job, so make it work for you. There are some crucial techniques you need for the interview process, such as being aware of what is important for the particular job and for the organisation, and illustrating what skills you can bring to the job that can fit the selection criteria. Also know what your weaknesses, if any, might be in case you are asked.

You need to demonstrate to the interview panel the skills that you have outlined in the selection criteria, and that your skills are at a higher level than other applicants.

To prepare your self for questions that may be asked:

  •  Re-read the job description form and selection criteria and think of examples of situations where you have applied the relevant skills and abilities;
  • Focus on the duties of the position and think about how you would carry them out. Think about possible problems that you may encounter and how you would resolve them.
  •  If the position has a supervisory role, give some thought to the special responsibilities of being a supervisor and how you would carry them out.
  • If you have any relevant reports or other work you have done, which will provide examples of your skills and abilities, you should prepare them for presentation at the interview
