Board Members

Chairman: Alan Birchmore

Mr Birchmore was appointed to the Board in March 2008. He is a former chairman of the Albany Port Authority. Mr Birchmore came to Western Australia in 1979 as managing director of Amalgamated Industries. He has occupied senior management and board appointments in Australia, the UK, Europe and the US through a range of financial, industrial and mining operations. He is currently a director of United Minerals and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Deputy Chairman: Bob Pearce

Mr Pearce was appointed to the Board in July 2004 and appointed Deputy Chairman in September 2004. He is a former WA Government Minister for Transport and Planning, and also held the portfolios of Education, Environment and Leader of the House. He is currently the Executive Director of the Forest Industries Federation of  WA, Vice President of the National Association of Forest Industries, Chairman of the WA Port Operations Taskforce and a member of the Seafreight Council. Mr Pearce is a graduate of The University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and is also a Justice of the Peace.

Eve Howell

Ms Howell, appointed in January 2006, has more than 30 years of technical and managerial experience in the petroleum industry in the UK and Australia. She is the Director - North West Shelf Ventures for Woodside. She is also a Director of the Australian Mines and Metals Association where she is Vice-Chairman. She has formerly been an Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) Councillor and Chair of APPEA’s Environmental Affairs Committee. Ms Howell has a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Pure and Applied Mathematics from the University of London and an MBA from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh Business School.

Jim Limerick

Mr Limerick, who joined the Board in October 2009, has an honours degree in metallurgy and a PhD, and has done post-graduate research in extractive metallurgy. He has worked in the WA nickel industry. He joined the Department of Resources Development in 1986 and in 2001 became Director General of the Department of Industry and Resources. He has been influential for over a decade in strategic planning for future industrial infrastructure in WA. In 2008 he was awarded the Australian Public Service Medal. He is now the Principal of Ramelton Consulting Pty Ltd.

Marie Malaxos

Ms Malaxos, appointed in October 2009, is an Electronic Engineer with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management. She started her working career in the upstream side of the oil and gas industry, in a variety of technical, consulting and management roles on the Dampier to Bunbury, Goldfields and Parmelia pipelines in WA. She joined ARC Energy Ltd in 2002 and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2006. In 2008 Marie began a career consulting to the resources industry in WA. Marie is a member of the Institute of Company Directors.
