"Achille Lauro" berthed at Fremantle on its maiden voyage from Europe. The sister ship "Angelina Lauro" called in earlier in the year on her maiden voyage. The two ships were to become frequent visitors to the Port. The "Achille Lauro" also featured as a 'viewing ship' during the America's Cup defence in 1986-87.

11 June 1966

The first export shipment of Australian alumina to the United States of America (15,1000 long tons) left the Alumina refinery jetty on board the "MV Forsvik".

9 September 1966

The Westminster Dredge (W.D.) "Seven Seas" - a trailer suction hopper dredge arrived at the Inner Harbour in readiness to commence the deepening of the Success and Parmelia Channels. The minimum declared depth of these two channels was to be increased from 38 ft. below low water to 45 ft. before low water, enabling ships of up to 70,000 tons capacity to enter Cockburn Sound. The W.D. "53", a second dredge,was also used on the Project.
