The first ship to use the Calista Channel was the Norwegian built carrier "Milbank" which lifted 28,000 metric tons of alumina on April 5th 1968. The Calista Channel leads from the Stirling Channel to the deepwater area around the Alumina Refinery Jetty. Shipments of single cargoes up to 100,000 tons were made possible by the dredging of the Calista Channel.
