Fremantle Port Authority commissioned a loader attachment to the No. 2 unloader at the Bulk Cargo Jetty. The designed capacity of the unit was 500 tons per hour for material of 80 pounds per cubic foot density.

19 February 1971

When the roll-on roll-off (Ro/Ro) cargo ship "Paralla" arrived in the Inner Harbour on the 19th February 1971, another modern concept of cargo handling was demonstrated for the first time in Western Australia. This was the first visit by a ship with capacity to handle cargo via an angled ramp mounted aft.

A consignment of motor vehicles from Europe was driven ashore under their own power. This was the first time this method of discharging vehicles had been employed in the Port from an overseas ship.
