1974
The old No.1 gate checkers' cabin was demolished as part of an overall scheme to provide additional cargo handling area, a new Port entrance and gate check cabin and the re-siting of the C.Y. O'Connor statue.

7 February 1974

The first shipment of bulk tallow from Craig Mostyn's North Quay terminal. Nine hundred tonnes was loaded by pipeline onto the "Lsco Tabangao" on 7th February 1974.

March 1974

Pile driving on the neck of the Kwinana Grain Jetty was completed in March 1974.

The bulk carrier "Qinghai" berthed at the grain terminal to load wheat on the first ship from the People's Republic of China to berth in the Port of Fremantle.

26 April 1974

On 26 April 1974, Seatainer Terminals Limited, the principal operators in the Port of Fremantle Container Terminal complex, handled its 250,000th container since commencing operations on 29 March 1969. This container was discharged from the "Melbourne Express" and marked five years of continuous expansion in the container industry in WA..

In 2000/2001 354,000 containers were handled at Fremantle.

7 May 1974

The arrival of the combination ship "Tamara" on 7th May 1974 heralded the commencement of a new shipping service between Australia, South East Asia and the east cost of North America.
