No 2 Portainer Crane at the Container Terminal was commissioned on 30 April 1982. The crane, weighing 750 tonnes, was 75.6m high with a 34.4m outreach. It also featured an 'Easiriser' personnel lift as a safety feature.

The M.V "Centaur" departed Fremantle for the last time on 15 Sept 1982, having made a total of 303 round trip voyages between Fremantle and Singapore during its 18 years in the service of the Blue Funnel Line, Alfred Holt, Ocean Steamship Co Ltd. With her departure, the last remaining regular passenger ship service ended

31 Oct 1982

Jon Sanders crossed the finishing line in Fremantle Inner Harbor on 31 Oct 1982, becoming the first solo yachtsman to sail continuously twice around the world. He took 420 days to complete the voyage in his yacht "Perie Banou".
