The Port of Fremantle is the biggest and busiest general cargo port in Western Australia. It is the fourth largest container port in Australia.
The port operates from two locations - Fremantle Inner Harbour and the Outer Harbour, 20 kilometres south of Fremantle at Kwinana. At Kwinana, Fremantle Ports operates Kwinana Bulk Jetty and Kwinana Bulk Terminal.
The port handles:
- 76% by value of the WA’s seaborne imports and 16% by value of WA’s seaborne exports
- more than $26 billion in trade annually
- 26.6 million tonnes of cargo annually
- cargoes such as vehicle imports and livestock, cruise shipping (39 calls in 2010) and naval visits.
The Kwinana Outer Harbour is one of Australia's major bulk handling ports. Major trades include wheat, alumina, petroleum, mineral sands and fertilisers.
