Fremantle’s “tree man” Bryn Davis, well known for his personal tree planting efforts throughout the city, has also played a part in Fremantle Ports’ landscaping program.
Project Supervisor John Malaga, who manages the landscaping, said Mr Davis’s contribution had been most welcome.
“Bryn’s a Fremantle institution who has been helping to beautify the city for more than 20 years,” John said.
“Twelve months ago he approached us to say he had some Norfolk pines he could donate to help with our landscaping and we accepted them gladly to replace some that had not survived after being planted along Port Beach Road.
“Bryn had grown the trees from seed, but in a protected environment, so we asked our landscaping contractors to take them and toughen them up to increase their survival rate.
“When they were ready to be used, we invited Bryn to join us in planting them and he was delighted to do so.”
Bryn was a member of Fremantle Ports’ Landscape Reference Group when the landscaping masterplan for the Inner Harbour area was developed in 2000.
