Victoria Quay heritage interpretation planning update

Victoria Quay

With input from community members and other stakeholders, Fremantle Ports is developing a heritage interpretation plan for the western end of Victoria Quay.

Last year, Fremantle Ports engaged award-winning heritage consultants Lovell Chen Architects, to develop the plan. Lovell Chen has worked with Lookear, a consultancy specialising in interpretative design and communication.

Since the middle of last year, Lovell Chen’s and Lookear’s work for the project has included site visits, extensive research and consultation with interested community groups and individuals, historians, and representatives from the City of Fremantle and the WA Museum.

Stakeholder consultation has included briefings and feedback sessions in October (initial consultation sessions), November (draft concepts and information on work to date), December (further consultation and opportunities for feedback) and March (presentation of draft report).

Anthropologists Ken Macintyre and Dr Barbara Dobson were also engaged by Fremantle Ports to assist with indigenous consultation with groups of Elders to provide advice and input into the interpretation planning.

Lovell Chen and Lookear have also consulted with other architects and design consultants working on various aspects of the western end of Victoria Quay, including architects Donaldson + Warn, who are working on urban design standards, heritage architects Phillip Griffiths Architects and graphic designer Neil Turner.
