US fleet arriving in Fremantle tomorrow morning (2 July 2009)

Aircraft carrier USS George Washington and missile cruiser USS Cowpens begin a short visit to the Port of Fremantle tomorrow morning.

USS George Washington, with 5000 crew, will anchor in Gage Roads while USS Cowpens will be berthed at E Berth at Victoria Quay, in the Inner Harbour.

USS Cowpens, named after the Battle of Cowpens, an American victory near Cowpens, South Carolina, during the American Revolution, has 400 crew.

The ships will not be open to the public during their stay.

 

Exclusion zone for navy vessels

This information is for owners of small boats and others concerned.

In accordance with the Western Australian Port Authorities Act 1999 and the Western Australian Port Authorities Regulations 2001, unless specifically exempted by the Fremantle Ports Harbour Master, the following exclusion zone has been established around all navy vessels with Fremantle Port Waters.

Port users and members of the general public are advised, that until further notice, all unauthorised vessels and recreational craft are required to keep the following minimum clearances at all times:

·         150 metres from a berth occupied by a navy vessel

·         200 metres from any navy vessel in transit or during arrival/departure

·         600 metres from any navy vessel at anchor in Gage Roads.
