A 1923 Model-T delivery truck that used to shuttle merchandise between Victoria Quay and the Boans warehouse was recently back for a photo.
Author David Hough organised for the truck to be at B Shed for photographs related to his book Boans for Service: The story of a department store 1895-1986, which was launched on 23 April.
“Boans Ltd had its own shipping department on the wharf and a fleet of Boans’ trucks ran a shuttle service delivering merchandise to its warehouse,” David said.
“The truck belonged to Arnold Hume, who joined Boan Brothers in 1917 and was managing director from 1959-65. One of only two surviving original delivery trucks, it was rebuilt by Arnold’s grandson David and great-grandson Tim and named Arnold.”
Harry Boan, who arrived in Perth in 1895, considered opening his business in Fremantle before settling on an “unpromising block of land” opposite the recently opened Central Railway Station in Perth.
