Christopher van Tuinen will conduct soloists Shaun Lee-Chen (violin), Rachael Aquilina (violin), Julia Watson (violin) and Noeleen Wright (cello) and the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra at 3pm this Sunday 12 November at B Shed, Victoria Quay, Fremantle Port.

The concert is proudly supported by Fremantle Ports.

The program comprises Handel's Concerto Grosso Op.6 No.12, Mozart's Violin Concerto 5 Turkish and Haydn's Symphony No.49 La Passione.

FCO founder Hans Hug said Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op.6 No.12 'bursts with positive and happy Baroque melodies and creates the perfect space for Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 5, called the Turkish.

'This concerto is very lyrical and, for its time, revolutionary while Mozart’s exquisite sweetness is ever-present.

'In the 3rd and last movement Alla Turca, on top of incorporating “exotic” Turkish melodies and rhythms, the cellos and basses play “coll’ arco al rovescio”, meaning “with the wood of the bow,” producing a percussive sound.

'Haydn is a composer who is often underrated yet all compositions I know (he was extremely prolific with 106 Symphonies, operas, chamber works, masses, oratorios ...) offer delights — emotional, intellectual, fantastical — of such freshness and generosity, like his Symphony 49 La Passione.

'This year, Sir Simon Rattle is focussing on Haydn with the Berlin Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra “to showcase Haydn at his most original, most bizarre, most witty”.'

Hans said violinist Shaun Lee-Chen regularly performed as a soloist with all major orchestras in Australia and is concert master of the renowned Australian Brandenburg Orchestra.

'Who could forget his magic interpretation of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.3 with FCO last year?

'As the Handel is a concerto grosso there are also solos for outstanding FCO members Rachael Aquilina and Julia Watson (violin) and Noeleen Wright (cello).'
