Scientific research ship JOIDES Resolution is at Victoria Quay, Fremantle Port until Friday 1 December (see Shipping Movements).

The JOIDES Resolution is a research vessel that drills into the ocean floor to collect and study core samples.

Scientists use data from the ship to better understand climate change, geology and the Earth’s history.

It is a part of the International Ocean Discovery Program and is funded by the National Science Foundation.

The Japanese icebreaker Shirase has been visiting Fremantle Port in November for decades on its annual visit to Antarctica.
