Trade with East, South East and Southern Asia amounted to 57.0% of total port trade in 2010-11 (up from 45% in 1999-2000). Australian coastal trade accounts for 15% of total port trade.

In volume terms the port’s principal export commodities are grain, alumina, refined petroleum and coal, which together account for 72.0% by volume of total exports.
