The Inner Harbour Deepening Project has been through a very thorough environmental assessment process with the works approved by the Western Australian Minister for Environment.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concluded that it was unlikely its objectives would be compromised by the project, provided the recommended commitments and conditions were satisfactorily implemented. Fremantle Ports is undertaking the project with strict monitoring and safeguards in place to minimise any impacts on the environment.
An independent consultant, Oceanica Consulting, has been engaged to undertake monitoring and reporting during the dredging.
