Fremantle Ports, as part of its commitment to decisions based on data and analysis, maintains a comprehensive statistical data base on trade activities. Trade data is extracted from import and export cargo manifests.
Vessel arrival dates for import cargo and vessel departure dates for export cargo determine the trade statistics date parameters. Prior to 1995-96, statistical data was based on invoice dates.
Definitions
Twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) are the international measure for standardising container throughput numbers. For example, one forty-foot long container is recorded as two TEUs, irrespective of height.
Empty containers are treated as a commodity category and recorded as weighing 2.0 mass tonnes per general TEU or 2.5 mass tonnes per refrigerated (reefer) TEU if no weight is given on the manifest.
Mass tonnes are used to measure the weight of goods, including packaging. When cargo is containerised, the tare weight of the container is excluded from the weight of the goods.
