Free Harbour Tours by boat

Fremantle Ports will conduct free one-hour on-water tours of the Inner Harbour on selected Sunday afternoons in March and April, starting on 14 March.

A 25-metre charter vessel with seating for 40 will run three times a day, leaving from the East Street Jetty in Beach Street, East Fremantle and returning to the same location.

Manager Corporate and Community Relations Neil Stanbury said the tours were a rare chance for the public to see and understand the harbour from a unique perspective.

“Many of us know the harbour, but relatively few get to see it up close from the water and learn about it in detail,” he said.

“These hour-long tours will cover everything from the river mouth’s indigenous history, the harbour’s construction by CY O’Connor, its vital trade role and how the container terminals operate.

“As we travel around the harbour, port staff and Friends of Fremantle Ports will talk about our measures in place to protect the environment, Fremantle’s immigration story, tugs, piloting and everything in between.”

“Autumn weather is generally ideal for such an on-water initiative and Fremantle Ports is delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to the public.”

Tour dates and times are as follows:

Sunday 14 March - 1-2pm, 2-3pm, 3-4pm

Sunday 21 March - 1-2pm, 2-3pm, 3-4pm

Sunday 28 March - 1-2pm, 2-3pm, 3-4pm

Sunday 11 April - 1-2pm, 2-3pm, 3-4pm

Mr Stanbury said prior bookings were essential and places limited. Harbour tours are restricted to those aged 5 and above and enclosed footwear is required.
